Frequently Asked Questions About Counselling | Ruislip
Frequently Asked Questions About Counselling Ruislip & Online
How long are therapy sessions?
Sessions are 50 minutes long and are at the same time each week.
Where are face-to-face sessions?
In-person sessions take place in a dedicated, private therapy room—Quiet Space Counselling—located close to Ruislip High Street (HA4).
What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to meet, explore what brought you to counselling, and begin to get a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit. There is no pressure—we take things gently and entirely at your pace.
What can I talk about in counselling?
You can bring whatever feels important to you. Some people come with a highly specific issue, while others are less sure and just know they need space. We can begin wherever you are.
Do I need to prepare before a session?
No preparation is needed. You do not need to have anything figured out before you arrive—we will start with whatever feels most present for you at the time.
How often are sessions?
Sessions are usually weekly, held at a regular, recurring time. This consistency helps to create a reliable and supportive container for our ongoing work.
How long does counselling last?
This varies from person to person. Some people come for short-term, focused support, while others choose to work together for longer. We will review this together regularly as we go.
Is counselling confidential?
Yes—what you share in our sessions is strictly confidential. This is crucial to creating a safe and trusting space for you to speak openly. Please see limitations to this below.
As a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP), I work in accordance with the BACP Ethical Framework. To maintain high ethical standards, I engage in regular clinical supervision and ongoing professional development. There are standard legal and safety limits to confidentiality, which we will discuss clearly before we begin working together.
Are there any limits to confidentiality?
Confidentiality has strict legal and ethical limits only if there are serious, immediate concerns about safety, or specific legal obligations to share information. These boundaries will be discussed transparently during our first meeting.
Do you offer online sessions?
Yes. I offer both face-to-face sessions in Ruislip and online sessions via a secure video platform. We can decide together which format feels most comfortable and suitable for you.
