Frequently Asked Questions About Counselling | Ruislip

How much do sessions cost?
Sessions cost £70 for face-to-face, online and walk & talk outdoor counselling. I offer a limited number of concession spaces for those on low incomes.

Insurance Payments?
I am an approved counselling provider for Vitality Health.

Do you offer sessions for adults or young people?
I currently provide counselling exclusively for adults (aged 18 and over).

What happens in the first session?
The first session is a chance for us to meet, explore what brought you to counselling, and begin to get a sense of whether working together feels like the right fit. There is no pressure—we take things gently and entirely at your pace.

Can I talk to you before starting Counselling?
Absolutely, it’s a good idea to meet someone first before starting any work together. I offer a 20-minute online or phone call as a chance to discuss what has brought you here, what you are hoping for and answer any questions you may have. There is no obligation to continue afterwards and there is no charge for this session, it provides a chance to explore how we might work together. If you’d like to do this, please see the button at the bottom of the page.

What can I talk about in counselling?
You can bring whatever feels important to you. Some people come with a specific issue, while others are less sure and need some space to work things out. We can be curious together about what arises in the session.

You do not need to plan what to say. I will ask you some questions as we go along, but you are always the leader of how much you choose to share.

Do I need to prepare before a session?
You do not need to have anything figured out before you arrive – some people have a clear sense of why they come to counselling, for others sometimes might just not feel quite right, without knowing exactly what is off. We can start wherever you are right now.

How often are sessions?
Sessions are usually weekly, held at a regular, recurring time. This consistency helps to create a reliable and supportive container for our ongoing work and maintains a momentum for working together.

How long does counselling last?
This varies from person to person. Some people come for short-term, focused support, while others choose to work together for longer. We will review this together regularly as we go.

Is counselling confidential?
Yes – what you share in our sessions is strictly confidential. This is crucial to creating a safe and trusting space for you to speak openly. Although there are some specific limitations to confidentiality, please see below.

Are there any limits to confidentiality?
Confidentiality has strict legal and ethical limits only if there are serious, immediate concerns about safety, or specific legal obligations to share information. These boundaries will be discussed transparently during our first meeting.

In person sessions are held in a quiet, dedicated room in Ruislip. The address will be shared in your booking confirmation email.
